How to Use a Toki Bean Bag
October 5, 2026
Bean bag chairs have been popular for older kids for decades, but few are designed specifically for babies and young children. Unlike traditional seating, a bean bag is soft, adaptable, and comfortable for fidgeting kids. The Toki Kids bean bag is all of those things, but is designed to support little ones from birth and beyond.
Our bean bag is constructed with an outer cover made from a silky, stretchy bamboo jersey blend, and intentionally overstuffed with food-grade EPS microbeads. Ultra soft and supportive, the bean bag feels like a puffy, lightweight cloud without the typical sagging from other bean bags. Here are our favorite uses—among many—for the Toki bean bag:
Tummy Time
Tummy time is an essential part of your baby’s daily routine from birth. By placing your baby on their tummy, they develop the necessary muscles in their neck and trunk to independently hold up their head and set the foundation for future motor milestones, like crawling and walking.
Many babies struggle with tummy time in the early weeks, crying whenever they are placed on the floor. Although floor time is important for your baby, you can alternate tummy time sessions between their play mat and our bean bag. Always supervise tummy time, and choose a time when they’re awake, they’re alert, and not too soon after a feed.
Position your baby at an upward angle on the bean bag to get them comfortable on their belly and ease them into tummy time. The Toki bean bag is soft enough for their comfort, yet firm enough to support your baby in this position without them sinking down.

Inclined Positioning
Babies who are prone to reflux should be held upright or placed on an incline position for about 30 minutes after a feed. If your little one doesn’t like to be in a bouncer and your arms need a break, our bean bag makes the perfect spot for them to lounge. Simply push the beads down and make an angled spot to place them on.
Always closely supervise your baby and use this face-to-face time to build communication, emotional bonding, and early social skills. Talking, singing, and smiling are all great ways to communicate with your little one and build important brain connections!

Sitting Support
A bean bag is a great tool to help your baby transition to sitting independently. Plenty of floor play is crucial for this milestone, as sitting upright is a dynamic skill. A hard floor provides an opportunity for little ones to practice balance and weight shifting. However, you may also use our bean bag as a sitting prop for short, supervised periods when they begin to show signs of readiness.
The bean bag filling provides soft support that isn’t as restrictive as an upright container seat, but protects your little one from tipping or falling as they learn to steady themselves. Always closely supervise your baby and continue to offer them plenty of floor time!
Toddlers and older children also benefit from sitting on the Toki bean bag. Because the design is closer to a floor cushion than a typical beanbag chair with back support, our bean bag encourages little ones to sit upright with proper posture. This is a great way for your children to improve their balance and core strength!

Sensory Seating
Bean bags are commonly used as sensory seating because they provide proprioceptive input and calming pressure. As kids sit on the bean bag, the filling gently molds to the body and provides steady contact that is soothing for the nervous system. The Toki bean bag is small enough to fit in a calming corner or on the couch, making it easy for even very young children to grab whenever needed.

Crash Landing
When our bean bag isn’t being used as the softest seat in the house, it makes a fun and effective crash pad for active kids. If your child loves to jump off the couch or bed, a safe landing zone can improve their motor planning skills and prevent injury. Our bean bag is more flexible and shock-absorbing than a pillow, and also provides satisfying sensory input.
